Loving You Is Easy

February 14, 2011 by

Ah, L’amour. On this Valentine’s day, is your world filled with love, mushy messages, flowers, chocolate, romance and adoration? I hope so. Valentine’s Day, love it or hate it, is a reminder to honour those we love. Did you honour the one you love who looked back at you in the mirror this morning? Have you done anything loving for yourself today? My guess is that the answer is no – most of us are terrible at loving ourselves, and much more comfortable looking for love from others. But when we do this, we are missing out on a fabulous source of love. We are cutting ourselves off from the endless well of love we have inside, and putting it in the hands of someone else…whose skills might not include giving love!

Do you love yourself? Do you appreciate your wonderful qualities? Do you enjoy your little foibles and odd habits? Do you adore who you are? Do you show yourself this love? Or do you hide the love behind a veil of criticism, judgement and fault-finding? Whether you are in a relationship arranged by Cupid himself, or whether you are single, loving yourself is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. You feel loved, whether the outside world is reflecting back your magnificence, beauty and gorgeousness or not. You are loved – you are an amazing human being. Look at you, you’re adorable!

So give yourself some love! How? Well how do you show love for your lovers, your friends, your family? Tell yourself ‘I love you’ in the mirror. Give yourself a kiss – go on, kiss your hand! Give yourself a cuddle – go on, do it. If anyone sees you, you can pretend you’re cold! Praise yourself. Go on a rampage of appreciation for yourself – list all the things you love about yourself: your sense of humour, your generosity, your beautiful eyes, the way you look when you laugh. Sing your favourite love song to yourself in the mirror. Do yourself a mixed CD of love songs. Buy yourself flowers, chocolates, jewelry. Ask yourself what is the most loving thing you can do for yourself when you’re making any decision.

The first time I sang a love song to myself in the mirror, I couldn’t stop laughing – it was the funniest thing! But after I’d done it, I did indeed feel more loved. It may sound a bit bonkers, but do it anyway – when you feel loved, you are more secure, happier, you are more able to give love…and more able to receive love, as well as attracting other people who reflect back to you how lovable and wonderful you are. Of course it’s lovely when someone else buys the flowers and chocolates, but don’t leave it in their hands alone. Love yourself. You deserve it. Altogether now…

When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are

(Bruno Mars – Just the Way you are)

Mwah! With much love, Happy Valentine’s Day

What’s Your Life About?

June 23, 2010 by

If you had to say what the ‘theme’ for your life was, what would it be? For too many of us, it is ‘misery’, ‘working hard’, ‘getting through the day’ – and largely because we don’t pay attention to what we WANT our life to be about and take steps to make that happen. So if you were to choose what your life was about, what would you choose? Love? Fun? Joy? Enjoyment? Energy?

My life is about falling in love with life – enjoying my life no matter what the circumstances, walking through life with a spring in my step and a smile on my face. Do I always have this? No. I am often pulled off course by “comparisonitis”, “impatience”, “should-bee’s” and wanting things to be ‘different’. But more and more I come back to what life is really about – enjoying it.

So what’s your life about? And what are you going to make it about? Leave me a comment and tell me about it!

The Truth of You

May 26, 2010 by

“I can’t tell you what your next action will be, but mine involved a full stop. I had to stop living unconsciously, as if I had all the time in the world. The love and good and the wild and the peace and creation that are you will reveal themselves, but it is harder when they have to catch up to you in roadrunner mode. So one day I did stop. I began consciously to break the rules I learned in childhood: I wasted more time, as a radical act. I stared off into space more, into the middle distance, like a cat. This is when I have my best ideas, my deepest insights.

Obviously, it is in many people’s best interest for you not to find yourself, but it only matters that it is in yours—and your back’s—and the whole world’s, to proceed.

There’s always something ending and something beginning. Yet in the very center is the truth of your spiritual identity: is you.Fabulous, hilarious, darling, screwed-up you. Beloved of God and of your truest deepest self, the self that is revealed when tears wash off the makeup and grime. The self that is revealed when dealing with your anger blows through all the calcification in your soul’s pipes. The self that is reflected in the love of your very best friends’ eyes. The self that is revealed in divine feminine energy, your own, Bette Midler’s, Hillary Clinton’s, Tina Fey’s, Michelle Obama’s, Mary Oliver’s. I mean, you can see that they are divine, right? Well, you are, too. I absolutely promise. I hope you have gotten sufficiently tired of hitting the snooze button; I know that what you need or need to activate in yourself will appear; I pray that your awakening comes with ease and grace, and stamina when the going gets hard. To love yourself as you are is a miracle, and to seek yourself is to have found yourself, for now. And now is all we have, and love is who we are.”
- Anne Lamott

Take this and read it again and again and again until you have absorbed it all. I have read it every day for 2 weeks and every time I feel my spirit lift. May it do the same for you.

And God Made Dog

February 19, 2010 by

A bit of Friday Fun for you:

And God created dog – The Story of Adam & Eve’s Pets

Adam and Eve said, ‘Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you anymore. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you
love us.’

And God said, ‘I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves.’

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.

And it was a good animal.

And God was pleased.

And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.

And Adam said, ‘Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal.’

And God said, ‘I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG.’

And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.

And they were comforted

And God was pleased.

And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of
adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well.’

And God said, ‘I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration..’

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.

And Cat would not obey them.. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat’s eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.

And Adam and Eve learned humility..

And they were greatly improved.

And God was pleased . . .

And Dog was happy. . .

And Cat didn’t give a shit one way or the other…

Happy Friday!!!

A Birthday Message from Myself

December 12, 2009 by

Among the many good wishes and messages I got on Thursday for my birthday (thank you, by the way if you were one of them!), I also got an e-mail from myself. I set this up a year ago, imagining the message I would like to get from myself in a year’s time. Then I promptly forgot all about it. Let me just share a tiny bit of it with you: “My dearest wish for you is that you will look in the mirror and see what I see – the dearest, most gorgeous, most fabulous woman in the world.”

Aw, aren’t I sweet?! And do you know what? This was one of the most treasured messages I got on my birthday. I was right, I judged it well – the message I sent myself was very well recieved, made me smile, made me laugh and it felt great! If you’d like to send yourself a message into the future, go along to futureme.org – but just do one thing for me – make it a positive, loving message. You do enough criticising yourself on a day to day basis. Make this message something you will feel great about receiving!

Living Life With Passion

October 30, 2009 by

When you think of Loving Life, what comes to mind?

When you think of Living Passionately, what comes to mind?

When you think of Living Joyfully, what comes to mind?

It is my humble opinion that life is to be lived and loved, passionately, fully, joyfully. For too many of us, we don’t. Love of life, passion and joy are things we don’t even think about. Well, this weekend I have a mission for you – start falling in love with life, living passionately and joyously. How? As ever, one step at a time. Answer the questions above – what comes to mind…and what can you do this weekend to start falling in love with life, living passionately and/or living joyfully?

I see you having a weekend full of love, passion, joy and laughter.

10 Things I Love About You

October 29, 2009 by

I tweeted the other day “Finish this sentence 100 times. I love… Feels good eh?” I’ve been talking recently about getting your energy right first before you do anything – well this is one GREAT way to raise your energy. Focus on what you love. Love energy is so strong, it can work miracles – people have achieved extraordinary feats for those they love.

And it feels GOOD! So I decided to take my own advice and focus on what I love about my business.
1. I love my clients – they are fabulous, fun, open, intelligent, curious, ambitious, and they are all about enjoying their life!
2. I love talking to these clients – I enjoy all my coaching calls SO MUCH!
3. I love the way I get to share all the insights I’ve gained and help others.
4. I love that I get paid to do something I love!
5. I love hearing what people are passionate about, what they love, what their purpose is in life
6. I love coaching – it’s such a fabulous thing to help someone get where they want to be in life
7. I love the uniqueness of it – every conversation is different
8. I love the energy generated by coaching – you can really feel something being created through the coaching process
9. I love celebrating the successes of my clients
10. I love seeing people become more confident, gain their power, LIVE their life

I’ll stop there, i don’t want to bore you! But I hope you could feel the energy change as I concentrated on what I love about… And I hope that you start focusing on what you love about…everything in your life!

What Are You Leaving Behind?

September 15, 2009 by

Think about the last 24 hours of your life – where have you been? What did you leave behind? For example, I visited my yoga teacher and left behind a bag of damsons (which was a good thing!). I met friends in the pub and left laughter (because I was so tired I thought someone’s t-shirt said “bee taster”…it was actually “beer taster” D’oh!). I went to the shop and left money and a smile.

I think I have mostly left every part of my world better because I was in it this last 24 hours. That’s not always the case. Sometimes I can leave behind sarcasm, irritation, mess! But if I think about it, I’d rather leave the world a better place behind me than a trashed, insulted, shouted at and hurt. How about you?

Pursuing Outrageous Joy

August 6, 2009 by

Somewhere this week, I came across the phrase “outrageous joy”. It has totally caught my imagination, and I’ve decided my new ‘job’ is to find and bring outrageous joy. What does this mean in practice? I have thrown away the ‘to do’ lists, I am not doing any ‘should’s, I am spending more time with friends and family, and enjoying each moment as much as I can.

It feels rather good to be honest. No stress, lots of fun – what I imagine ‘God’ had in mind when life was created.

If your mission in life was to find and bring outrageous joy, what might change in your life?
