OnTheBeach – Earth Angel

Hope you are healthy, happy and living with purpose, passion and joy (if not, the special offer is still on…see below!). Every week in my OnTheBeach weekly newsletter, I choose a ‘Beach Card’ for the readers. Over the past few weeks, I have been amused by how often the ‘Beach Card’ I’ve picked has been very relevant to the article of the week, so this week I decided to change the order, and pick the beach card before I chose or wrote the article. And as soon as I saw the card, I knew exactly which article to use! I love that – I feel like this article has been divinely picked for you this week. I hope you enjoy it!
Don’t forget the September Special offer – 20% off multiple coaching sessions. Click here for more information and to book.
- Earth Angels -
A few years ago I had 2 cars written off within 6 months, and both times I had an earth angel come to my rescue. First time round was my best friend who lent me her car so I would have transport (bless her!) – after nearly 6 months, we decided I’d buy it from her…and it got written off a few days later! Bah. Then it was the turn of the father of a friend of my mom’s to come to my rescue. This guy didn’t know me from a bar of soap – he not only sold me a car, he also loaned me a car for a week so that I wouldn’t be without. What a star! A similar thing happened 2 years ago when my last car was written off (2 out of these 3 occasions were not my fault by the way!) – the guy I bought my current car from loaned it to me for a week so I could see if I liked it before I bought it!
I was (and in fact, still am, all these years later!) so grateful to these people, I can barely articulate it. And I have decided that they were earth angels coming to help me out. Have you ever had that? People who just help you out of a hole with nothing in it for them. People can be so generous and kind, and when you are in a ‘bad place’, this really does feel like angelic assistance. When you are in a bad place, any small act of kindness can really lift you up – never mind a huge act like loaning you a car! What I realised is that a lot of these things happen on a daily basis…and I take it a little bit for granted.
No, people don’t give me their cars on a daily basis – that one is a special circumstance favour (that has now happened 3 times, how blessed am I?!)! What I mean is that people help me out on a daily basis – they share their knowledge, send me things that will be useful to me, are friendly and kind, make me smile and laugh. Help me with my business and my life, bring me chocolate, are generous to me in a hundred different ways. And the more I think about this, the more I realise that I am the luckiest woman on earth! Well, pretty darn lucky anyway. I think I’m going to need a bigger gratitude journal… So, to all earth angels – keep flexing your wings…and if you happen to have a Jaguar XK8 you would care to lend me… Ahem.
What about you? Do you have Earth Angels in your life? Not just doing huge things for you when you’re having a bad time, but also doing small things – sending you funny e-mails when you need a laugh, smiling at you, bringing you coffee. Maybe you are the Earth Angel for someone else…and you probably don’t even realise how much you mean to your friends, colleagues, even the lady in the shop who was having such a terrible day before you came along and smiled as you helped her. You never know how much that small act of kindness that you did so easily could mean to someone else – so for every act of kindness you have done in the last month, thank you. Sincerely, and from the bottom of my heart. Thank you.
- Something to Play With -
Who are your earth angels? Stop for a minute right now and appreciate what they have done for you. Do they know how much you appreciate their help? Why not tell them? And now, what can you do this week to flex your angel wings? This doesn’t have to be big – get me a bag of drumstick lollies and you’ll be my earth angel!!

Energy First, Action Second

While I’ve been tingling, I’ve noticed more than usual that when my energy is really low it takes me 100 times longer to do things…and often the things I do manage to do are not usable. For example, despite the 2 week break in blogs, I did actually write a few blog posts. Sadly they were utter rubbish! My energy was so low that my creativity just disappeared. And instead of inspiring, fun, interesting posts that will help you live a joyful life…they were the very opposite.
It’s not always practical to not do something until your energy is high and happy – life doesn’t stop just because you’re not feeling tip-top…but if you make your energy level a priority, you will reap the rewards – as will your friends, family, employers, clients. Here’s the scale I work by: 1 is flat, apathetic, can’t be arsed energy; 10 is WOOHOO, life’s amazing, bouncing around energy.
Where is your energy right now on a scale of flat to woohoo? (or 1-10) My assertion is that if my energy is less than a 7, it is an utter waste of time me doing any work because it’s rubbish! As I say, sometimes this isn’t practical, but many times something can be done to raise your energy level – self care, having a laugh, fresh air, exercise, music, focusing on the life you want, time with friends who raise your energy, sleep, star jumps (my old house mate used to do this, I thought she was nuts at the time, but I’m coming round to her way of thinking!)…and many more.
So, if your energy is less than a 7 right now, what can you do to raise that energy? Today. Leave me a comment and tell me what energy-raisers you have used and how your energy is right now.

Two Heads are Better Than One

From the book of doing things the hard way:
Rule number 3: Do everything alone. Get no support. Get no help. Carry the entire project on your shoulders.
BUT if you wanted to make life easier, why not enlist friends? Colleagues? Peers? I have been really lucky this week that the people I have spoken to have supported me unasked, have challenged me unasked, and have inspired me unasked. We just got together for a chat, and I got more out of those chats than I can possibly ever artiulate. It reminded me that 2 heads are better than 1, 5 heads are better than 2…
Whatever you are working on right now, in your private or business life, get support, get a community, get other people to help you. And you never know, there might be someone out there right now who needs your support. Win/win.

PS the first person to contact me with the name of the film I got the 5 heads bit from wins a free 30 minute coaching session – might be just the support you need!

Don’t wait for the circumstances of your life to be ‘perfect’ before you’re happy, get happy now. How? By noticing the little stuff that makes you happy, and consciously enjoying yourself. So the next time you are in the bath, or enjoying a meal, or reading a book, or out with friends, notice your happy feelings and enjoy them!

OnTheBeach – Help! I Need Somebody

A note from Donna
Not for the first time, I needed to read what I wrote this week! It is the anniversary of my uncle’s death today…and my friend reminded me that I mustn’t be down on my own – that she’d help me!! Thanks mate. xxx
Help! I need somebody
If you are anything like me, when you need a bit of help is the time when you disappear off the planet. For years I have been utterly marvellous at retreating to my cave to struggle on alone instead of taking the easy path and asking for help! My friends are the same – I often find out after the fact that the reason they have not been in touch is because they’ve been busy having a crisis! And then over the last week, several clients have also mentioned the same subject.
So why do we find it so hard to ask for help? In my case, I am supremely stubborn, independent and self-assured – to a fault! My dad is the opposite – he will cheerfully ask all and sundry for assistance with anything and everything. Can you ask for help when you need it? If not, why do you find it hard to ask for help? Is it that you don’t like to admit weakness? Is it that you want to do everything alone? Do you think you should be able to cope? Do you not want to burden other people with your problems?
Although it’s a trite saying, a problem shared is a problem halved. Well, if not halved, at least relieved! Other people are lovely souls – they love to help when they can. More than that, no man is an island – we all need others to survive. Even my Rice Krispies (breakfast cereal) go through the hands of loads of people just to get to my plate! And despite this interconnection, we still go it alone, don’t ask for help, don’t look for assistance, think this is part of life to just battle through alone.
I am going to get a little ‘woo-woo’ now, so if you’re against ‘woo-woo’-ness, turn away now! How often do you ask God, or the universe, or the guardian angels, or your guides, or whatever you believe in, for help? Divine assistance is an incredible resource that I think we do not ask for enough. I have had some incredible help from upstairs (as I call it) when I have remembered to ask – resources that came my way ‘out of the blue’, new clients, inspiration for articles, friends, all sorts of things.
Whether you believe in the unseen or not, I know without a shadow of a doubt that there is a benevolent and loving force helping me…when I ask! Which brings me to my last point. If you don’t ask, you don’t get! Either from the divine, or from the bloke next door. If you keep all your troubles to yourself, not only do you deny yourself the opportunity to be helped, you also deny them the opportunity to be helpful.
Something to play with
Think of a situation you could use some help with – maybe you just need some ideas, maybe you need a strong back for some lifting, maybe you just need a willing ear? ASK FOR HELP! Want to share your thoughts on this? Please leave me a comment below.
