Magic Moments

I am currently sat in the sunshine, with my laptop on my lap, music playing and delighted to be alive and outside! In this moment, I am so loving working for myself. It’s a magic moment. And so far it’s lasted half the morning. Ok, I didn’t say this to brag, but to make a very serious point. Many of us let these magic moments slide by, barely noticing that it’s a wonderful thing to be alive. And this is such a waste.
An unpleasant moment on the other hand, we tend to stop to appreciate. Hmm, perhaps not appreciate, but certainly we stop to notice, and then most likely we will relive it a hundred more times by telling all and sundry about the rubbish thing that happened to us. Magic moments meanwhile, pass by unnoticed, uncelebrated, unappreciated. The irony is of course, that it’s the magic moments we live for – it’s the joy we crave.
So today, whenever something good happens, stop a moment to savor it. Perhaps you don’t have the chance to sit outside and work in the sunshine, but you will have some pleasant things happen today. And the more that you appreciate these magic moments, the more magic moments you will notice, and the more magic moments will happen. I promise you.
Let me know what magic moments you are having today.

May the Sun Shine for You

On a St Patrick’s Day card I received:
“Whenever there is happiness, hope you’ll be there too
Wherever there are friendly smiles, hope they’ll smile on you
Whenever there is sunshine, hope it shines especially for you
To make each day for you as bright as it can be.”
Happy Tuesday!

Go to the Cricket? Why Would I Want to Do That?

As you’re reading this, I am at Edgbaston for the cricket. I am hoping that I will be bathed in endless sunshine, cheerfully watching a day of exciting cricket…and that British Summer Time will once again remember that it is July, not November or monsoon season. I was ever an optimist!
10 years ago I had less interest in cricket than I had in the native flaura and fauna of Siberia…that is to say, none! But my dad had a spare ticket and I had a spare day…and, well, it was great! Of course back then it involved large quantities of beer, but even in my more sober days, it is a great day out. Weather permitting, it is relaxing, play permitting, there is a party atmosphere, and aside from my frequent questions (what’s he doing over there, what happened there, and what the chuff is a googly) it is a most pleasant day out.
I tell you this not to encourage you to go to a cricket match, but to encourage you to try something new. When was the last time you did something you’ve never tried before? Went somewhere you’ve never been before? Seen a sport you’ve never seen before? You never know, you may find yourself still going 10 years later, and still enjoying it!

The Most Moisturised Shoulders in England
June 2, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach

Well, I have paid the price today for my insistence on being out of doors yesterday – I cannot leave the house in daylight due to seriously sunburnt shoulders! It’s lucky I work from home as I also can’t bear to have anything on them so I’m half-undressed and I’ve used half a bottle of AfterSun. It just goes to show that too much of a good thing is a bad thing. By the way, I was in the shade most of the day because I know my pale Irish skin can’t cope with sunshine…but in the 20 odd minutes I was in the sun, I managed to burn. Sigh.
On a positive note, I now have the most moisturised shoulders in England, so it’s not all bad!
Happy Tuesday!
