This is being used in an advert at the moment, and every time I hear it I laugh. I’m adopting it as my new theme tune – especially on Fridays!

What’s your theme tune?

What Lifts Your Soul?

June 30, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach

I was watching the coverage of Glastonbury festival this weekend, half wishing I was there (it’s the mud that puts me off!) and enjoying the special soul-lifting moments that (for me anyway) music always seems to bring. Like Blur (one of my favourite bands in the 90’s) finishing with The Universal. Stunning. “It really, really, really could happen…” sent a wonderful shiver up my spine. Even though I wasn’t physically there, with eyes closed, arms in the air, and the volume up I still felt that total BUZZ!

You know that buzz? That feeling that your heart is full to overflowing, that your soul is lifted up, that this moment is the only one that matters and it’s a beautiful moment. I’ve had so many of those moments at gigs, in nature, with friends, and after I finished watching the coverage on Sunday night I was reliving a few of them on my way to sleep. I realised that we don’t do that often enough – we don’t deliberately relive or create those moments that lift our soul…and it’s so much fun to do so!

So what lifts your soul? Think of at least a few things that really bring you joy, really bring a full to overflowing feeling to your heart…and spend a few minutes reliving them until you have a big sappy smile on your face and your soul’s up there in the bliss. Then make some plans to create more moments to add to this memory reel, and start reliving those beautiful moments DAILY. Let me know how you get on!

PS my favourite moment of the coverage was when they showed a sign from the ‘kid’s zone’ which said “Pretending to be an aeroplane is allowed in this area” – GENIUS! I am putting that sign up in my office.

Stand Out Moments of 2008

December 30, 2008 by Donnaonthebeach

What were your Stand Out Moments of 2008? What is the event that sticks out in your mind? What film got your attention this year? What song have you not been able to get out of your head this year?

My stand out moment has to be at the V festival. Standing ankle deep in mud, being rained on (in August), arms in the air singing along to Muse and completely oblivious to the rain, mud, cold (in August). “Best, you’ve got to be the best you’ve got to change the world and use this chance to be heard your time is now” What a moment.

The stand out film of the year for me was Mamma Mia! Yes, I know it’s cheesy, but I LOVED this film SO much. Despite thinking for the first 5 minutes that I was going to hate it, it is already up there in my top 5 films of all time – the ultimate chick flick, ultimate feel good film, and once again proving that Julie Walters is one of the greatest comic actresses around.

Stand out songs was a bit more problematic…there’s been a lot of good music this year (and a lot of “please God make it stop” music). I couldn’t pick one alone, so these are the 3 songs that literally stopped me in my tracks the first time I heard them: “Love is Noise” by the Verve; “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon; and “One Day Like This” by Elbow.

I could now go on to the ‘worst’ list…but you know what? I much prefer to walk on the sunny side of the street! I’d love to hear what your stand out moments, songs and films were this year, so please leave me a comment and let me know!

A Marvelous Way to Waste Some Time!

November 25, 2008 by Donnaonthebeach

Now you might think that with the website launch looming, I’d be frantically working on making sure everything is perfect and spending every spare moment thinking about it. Of course, you would be entirely wrong! Partly because my bizniz partner and I are meeting on Friday to go through the admin, so I’ll have the whole weekend to frantically work on making sure everything is perfect.

And partly because today I have been entirely distracted by the most WONDERFUL discovery! www.last.fm (UK only – there is a US version that I can’t remember)- online radio that you programme your favourite music into, and it not only plays you the music you love, but also reccommends other artists that you might enjoy. It’s BRILLIANT. Since putting in my likes I’ve listened to ALL music that I love. Amazing. BUT it is quite a distraction, because I keep going to look at the reccommendations, reading about these artists I’ve never heard of and adding them too.

And then I’m stopped in my tracks by a spectacular piece of music, or I’m turning up the volume to sing along, or I’m up and dancing. It’s a total distraction, and I love it!
