If You Could See Me Now – Recommendation

September 17, 2009 by Donna

If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you will know that I haven’t done a book recommendation for ages – largely because I normally only reccommend personal development books and I haven’t read anything ‘AMAZING’ for a while (lots of good stuff, but nothing astounding I just had to share).

But I must recommend Cecilia Ahern’s “If You Could See Me Now” – this has taken over as my favourite book of all time! Now, just in case you are a cyncial, intellectual snob (!) I will say this: it is a fluffy, lovely, girls book. It’s a romance (not mills&boon), it’s a fantasy (not Lord of the Rings), it’s imaginative, it’s ‘odd’, it’s kooky…and it’s wonderful. It’s probably not for everybody, but I love it and I think you might too…so check it out!

Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway

March 8, 2009 by Donna

I first read this book about 8 years ago, and since then it’s been sitting on my bookshelf gathering dust. After deciding to have a clearout of old books, I decided to read this again. And what a pleasant surprise it was. In general, I don’t do philosophies that are about ‘pushing yourself’ through anything, whether it’s fear or pain or anything else.

But Susan Jeffers is not really talking about ‘pushing’ yourself at all. Instead, she is talking about increasing your confidence, expanding your comfort zone, and enjoying your life. Now that’s MY kind of subject!! If you have any fears about living your life, this is a great book to give you tools and ideas to increase your confidence and start living the life you WANT to live. Enjoy!

Napoleon Hill – Think And Grow Rich

February 1, 2009 by Donna

For years, people have been recommending this book to me. I half expected that it would not live up to the hype, but I’ve actually found it easier to read, and more enjoyable than I expected. The success principles detailed in the book are based on 25 years of research and the experience of over 500 wealthy men – people who embodied these principles for success. If you, like me, are interested in making of your life the most you can, then this success manual will help you.

Peppered with lots of stories and practical examples, Think and Grow Rich is an enjoyable read that has converted me into one of those people who say “You Must read this book”! You CAN find it for free on the internet, or buy from Amazon…but do check the comments about the version you buy as it has been published many times since the 1930’s, and with varying degrees of accuracy (apparently, it’s not something I’ve made a study of!).

You Can Heal Your Life DVD – Recommended

January 6, 2009 by Donna

This DVD is one of my favourite examples of the law of attraction at work – after finding out my friend was battling cancer again, I decided to give her my copy of You Can Heal Your Life DVD. I also ordered another copy for myself, because I love this DVD. After a mix up by the despatchers, I got it for free. A few months later I got another free copy with a subscription I bought! I’ve given that one away too, and I wouldn’t be surprised to get another copy somehow.

The DVD itself never fails to make me feel better – every time I feel sick, negative or out of sorts, I put on this DVD and it peps me up. It’s a mixture of interviews with inspirational authors – Wayne Dyer, Doreen Virtue and Louise herself among them – and the story of a journey that always warms my heart. I love Louise Hay’s story, and this collection of inspiring people and uplifting ideas is a must for every DVD collection.

Feel Happy Now by Michael Neill is an easy to digest, fun book about…happiness. Michael gives very specific exercises to up your happiness quota – my favourite being ’swimming with the en-dolphins’!

This is a ridiculously easy exercise, which does not involve a trip to the sea, vast amounts of money or for you even to leave your chair to feel better.

If you are not as happy as you know you could be, check out this book and Feel Happy Now!

The Astonishing Power of Emotion

October 1, 2008 by Donna

The Astonishing Power of Emotion by Esther and Jerry Hicks is the simplest book I have ever seen on using the Law of Attraction. If you don’t know this “Law”, it basically states that like attracts like, so if you are being positive, you attract good stuff (and largely feel good!). The way to tell if you are ‘being positive’ is how you FEEL. You can be talking a good game, but still feeling angry, frustrated, sad and pessimistic.

The Astonishing Power of Emotion gives lots of examples of how we can turn ourselves “downstream” in any situation instead of fighting our way upstream, feeling bad and getting nowhere. The accompanying CD is amusing and will help you to put into practice this enormously simple tool of pivoting from feeling bad to feeling good. Whether you are a believer of such Universal Laws or not, this book is a wonderful companion for anyone who wants to feel good, be more positive, enjoy their life…and maybe even attract some good stuff!

Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui: Space Clearing Can Change Your Life by Karen Kingston is one of those incredible books that inspire you to take action just by reading it. I confess, I am a clutter-holic! I have way too much stuff, and leave a trail of mayhem in my wake, but while reading Karen Kingston’s gentle, interesting and amusing book, I found myself naturally clearing my clutter – operating a ‘clear desk’ policy, getting rid of things that I don’t need or want, and looking for new ways to clear out my life. Ok, I’ve not turned into a shining example of the use of feng shui just yet…but I am getting there! If you’ve ever wanted to clear your clutter, get this book – you will find yourself doing it without the usual “right, roll up my sleeves” determination.
