What Lifts Your Soul?
June 30, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach

I was watching the coverage of Glastonbury festival this weekend, half wishing I was there (it’s the mud that puts me off!) and enjoying the special soul-lifting moments that (for me anyway) music always seems to bring. Like Blur (one of my favourite bands in the 90’s) finishing with The Universal. Stunning. “It really, really, really could happen…” sent a wonderful shiver up my spine. Even though I wasn’t physically there, with eyes closed, arms in the air, and the volume up I still felt that total BUZZ!
You know that buzz? That feeling that your heart is full to overflowing, that your soul is lifted up, that this moment is the only one that matters and it’s a beautiful moment. I’ve had so many of those moments at gigs, in nature, with friends, and after I finished watching the coverage on Sunday night I was reliving a few of them on my way to sleep. I realised that we don’t do that often enough – we don’t deliberately relive or create those moments that lift our soul…and it’s so much fun to do so!
So what lifts your soul? Think of at least a few things that really bring you joy, really bring a full to overflowing feeling to your heart…and spend a few minutes reliving them until you have a big sappy smile on your face and your soul’s up there in the bliss. Then make some plans to create more moments to add to this memory reel, and start reliving those beautiful moments DAILY. Let me know how you get on!

PS my favourite moment of the coverage was when they showed a sign from the ‘kid’s zone’ which said “Pretending to be an aeroplane is allowed in this area” – GENIUS! I am putting that sign up in my office.

Unstick Your Stuck Pooh Stick
June 26, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach

Remember Pooh-sticks? The game Winnie the Pooh and friends played where they drop a stick into the water on one side of the bridge, and the first stick to reach the other side wins. Now, imagine that life is like a game of Pooh sticks…and you are the stick. The stick is happily floating downstream in the river of life…until it gets stuck. Maybe it’s wedged in with a bunch of other sticks, maybe it’s caught in a little eddy, going round and round and round.
Does this sound like your life? Is your stick stuck? Does it help your stick to complain about being stuck to all the other sticks? Does it help to moan that your stick is too fat, too stupid, too stuck? No. Your stick is still stuck. The stick isn’t a bad stick for getting stuck – it just got stuck. It happens in the river of life. Some sticks float down the river without ever getting stuck (although I’ve not once met one!), but most get stuck sometimes.
Now imagine that all you have to do is get your stick unstuck…that’s your only task. See the thing about getting stuck is that you don’t have to stay stuck. Sometimes you will need to move a load of other sticks around you to be able to move, sometimes it’s just a matter of pointing the stick back downstream, and sometimes you have to throw a rock at the stick to get it moving.
Again, the stick isn’t bad…no matter what it takes to get it moving again, the stick is just stuck. No more, no less. Are you getting the relevance of this metaphor to your life? Maybe you are not stuck right now…if not, great! Remember to enjoy the flow of life, and notice what is going on around you. Maybe you can avoid getting stuck for a while. When (if) you do get stuck, and if you are stuck now, your only task is to get unstuck.
My stick gets stuck on a regular basis – it might be a business challenge, or relationships, or outside influences, or health trouble, or writing, or any other ‘obstacle’ in life. I don’t mind getting stuck anymore, because I know lots of tools that will help me move my stick – coaching, journalling, gratitude, vision, friends, colleagues, clients, the list is endless. A few years ago the only way I knew was to throw a rock at the stick!
I want you to know that you don’t have to throw a rock at the stick – life change doesn’t have to be shocking and hard, and totally disorientating. You can let it be easy. As long as you are working on getting your stick back into the flow of life, it’s all good. And where is the flow going? Well, Nirvana of course. The joyful life. It’s not that far away…you just might get stuck a time or two. But your only job is to keep your stick unstuck and flowing.
I wish you this weekend a flowing, wonderful, joyous ride on the river of life!

Testimonial for my ebook “110 Steps To Heal Your Money”

Testimonial for my ebook “110 Steps To Heal Your Money”:
“ 110 steps to heal your money is a refreshingly down to earth , practical and approachable way in which to kick start a positive relationship with money. Having read through this e-book, I found myself not only enjoying the read (on what can often be portrayed as a dry and serious topic), but also feeling like I had a supporting friend along the way. Donna’s style is to be your supporter and friend in your journey from a ‘poorly money situation’ to a ‘healthy money situation’ – her upbeat style is infectious. If you’re looking for a solution that cuts to the core of you and what gets in your way of working positively with money to get the outcomes you want, then this is the material you need. Forget your dry, stuffy, number crunching approaches that have you wishing you’d never started reading, this is something quite different which really starts to unlock ways forward that you’d never have considered. What’s great about Donna being the author is she has had her own direct experience of a difficult relationship with money that she’s turned around to her benefit, she uses this experience in an empathetic way within the material which helps her relate well readers. Material that is well written that I would not hesitate to recommend to my clients.”

Giving Me Good Vibrations
June 23, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach

Woo, I’ve been feeling GOOD these past few days – I’m cheerful, laughing easily, happy, delighted with life…and the outer circumstances of my life have not changed one bit. So it’s not a new bloke, or a brace of new clients, or 1000 sales of my ebook, or any other outside influence. It’s pure bliss, joy, fun, love of life! And it’s wonderful.
We’ve all felt these ‘good vibrations’ where you just feel GREAT (sometimes for no reason!), but for some reason we seem content to just allow the good vibrations to happen when they will, and the rest of the time just struggle on through life the best we can. Well, let me ask you what you think would happen if you made it your life’s work to feel amazing, connected, joyous, blissful, delighted?
It’s something I try to keep in the forefront of my mind. Sometimes, PMT and rain intrude and I simply forget that my dominant intention is to fall in love with my life, but then sometimes I get a run of days where I just feel WONDERFUL! Over the past few days, these are a few things that have helped me ’stay connected’:
There’s probably much more, but you get the idea – now it’s your turn. What gets you in a Good Vibration? And are you going to make it a priority to fall in love with your life?

Reduce your workload by 30% and increase your fun load by 30% and you will increase your revenues by 100%. And you will increase your productivity by 10,000%. (If there could be such a percentage.) More fun, less struggle — more results on all fronts.

Sounds like EXCELLENT advice to me!

What do You Want For Others?
June 18, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach
Yesterday I realised that I have been so caught up in the business of ‘making my business successful’ that I had forgotten the most important thing – what I want for my clients. Not from them, for them. You see, I want the people who come to me for coaching to be able to realise and access their inner magnificence, to connect with who they truly are and what they truly want, to use their intuitive guidance to make their lives completely amazing…and to trust themselves enough to allow their intuition to take over. Oh, and above all, to live joyfully, and dance and laugh their way through life.
When I remember this, business takes on a more ’service’ aspect, becomes less about what I can get or achieve and more about the difference that I can make to 1 or 1000 or 1,000,000 lives. It is all too easy in this world just to get caught up in the race for success, without stopping to think about why we’re doing it in the first place. You can probably think of many examples of people who had ideals and integrity when they started out, but then got caught up in the culture of doing, fighting, pushing and forgot why they began that journey.
I believe most politicians fit in this category. They start out wanting to change the world, and then they get bogged down in the bureaucracy and mind-blowing slowness of change, and they simply forget what they initially set out to do! All of us have our bills to pay, our lives to live, our own agendas in life…but sometimes when you reconnect with what you want for others, you find a better way of doing what you do, increase your enjoyment of life, and you serve others.
So think of all the people in your life – what do you want for them? Your clients, your friends, your family, your neighbours, your community? And is your action in alignment with those desires? You may want your children to be happy – is criticising them adding to or distracting from their happiness? You may want your clients to have a great experience of working with you – is moaning about them or delaying returning their calls giving them a great experience?
Get back in touch with what you want for others and find the reasons why you do what you do, whether at work or at home. By the way, never sacrifice yourself to please someone else! Ultimately their experience of life is their business, but you can certainly influence that.

It’s a Marathon
June 16, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach
Filed under Blog posts, Donna's Life
Did you ever run or walk a marathon? It’s a ridiculously long way, and as you run (or walk in my case) you learn many things:
- one foot in front of the other is all you can do
- there are times when the next mile marker seems to move further away, not closer
- you need encouragement sometimes
- if you can keep going, you can finish
- you may have to stop and rest so you can get up and carry on
- there are moments of being ‘in the flow’ when it feels easy and beautiful and fun
- there are moments when every step is agony and you feel like you can’t go on
- although you feel like all you want is to finish, when you look back, you see the journey is the most important thing
- even though you swore to yourself at 23 miles you would NEVER do this again, within hours of finishing, you are contemplating ‘next time’
- even when it feels like you’re not getting anywhere, you’re one step closer than you were a step ago
And there are many more – let me know yours in the comments. Sometimes life is like that too – it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Your goals for your life, your business, your career, relationships, all of them – sometimes you just need to remember that as long as you keep putting one foot in front of the other, you WILL get there. And if you need some help along the way, maybe coaching will help you?
