Friday Fun: The Queen
‘Do you think the Queen’s ever pulled up the bedclothes and gone to Philip, “Look, I’m a stamp”?’ – Russell Howard
Genius!
If I’m ever featured on a stamp, I will!
Have a laughter-filled weekend!

Stop Putting Yourself Down in Front of Me
May 28, 2009 by Donna
I put a little note in an e-mail to a friend the other day “Stop putting yourself down in front of me” – I was semi-kidding, as I’m quite self-deprecating myself, but there was also a serious element to it. Can you imagine if someone followed you round all day, telling you how much you sucked, how stupid, lazy, unattractive and ridiculous you are? How long would it take before you smacked them in the mouth?
Become aware of how much you put yourself down unconsciously – and how much other people do it too. Please do not berate yourself for doing it – it’s a habit we all fall into, and we’re not doing it to be mean, we’re doing it to motivate ourselves or protect ourselves or to help us reach another goal (eg calling us ‘fat’ when we reach for the chocolate and we’re supposed to be dieting!). Ultimately though, it’s not motivating, protective or helpful…so notice it in yourself and others and call it.
And don’t do it in front of me, or I will call you on it! (feel free to call me on it too!)

Never Mind Susan Boyle
This gave me a laugh the other night – sadly they didn’t get through to the Britain’s Got Talent final, with Su-Bo, but check out Faces of Disco – it’s a quality act!
Enjoy!

Waking Up From the Dream
May 26, 2009 by Donna
I was reading a blog post from break the illusion last week about the idea that life is but a dream that we wake up from when we ‘die’. I like to think that when I wake up from this dream, I’ll be really laughing at how seriously I took myself sometimes…and when I think that, I remember that my sense of humour, ability to love, and ability to find joy are my most important qualities.

Friday Fun – Gis a Push
May 22, 2009 by Donna
A man and his wife were awakened at 3:00 am by a loud pounding on the door. The man gets up and goes to the door where a drunken stranger, standing in the pouring rain, is asking for a push.
“Not a chance,” says the husband, “it is 3:00 in the morning!” He slams the door and returns to bed.
“Who was that?” asked his wife.
“Just some drunk guy asking for a push,” he answers.
“Did you help him?” she asks.
“No, I did not, it is 3:00 in the morning and it is pouring rain out there!”
“Well, you have a short memory,” says his wife. “Can’t you remember about three months ago when we broke down, and those two guys helped us? I think you should help him, and you should be ashamed of yourself!”
The man does as he is told, gets dressed, and goes out into the pounding rain.
He calls out into the dark, “Hello, are you still there?”
“Yes,” comes back the answer.
“Do you still need a push?” calls out the husband.
“Yes, please!” comes the reply from the dark.
“Where are you?” asks the husband.
“Over here on the swing,” replied the drunk
GENIUS!
Happy Friday!

If You Chase, It Will Run
May 21, 2009 by Donna
What are you chasing after in your life? Money? Success? Boys? Girls? Happiness? When you chase after anything, it runs away. Let’s take happiness as an example here – you don’t have to ‘find’ happiness or chase it. You can be it, right now. No matter what’s going on around you, you can be happy now.
Try this:
What has been the best thing about today (or what will be the best thing about today)?
What was the last thing that really made you laugh? (see tomorrow’s blog for my FAVOURITE joke of the decade – it’s GENIUS!!!)
Talk about something that makes you happy – cuddles with your kids, sunshine, great music, your dog’s joy at seeing you when you’ve been gone 3 minutes, friends, lie-ins, singing, dancing, starlight…
Stop chasing what you want, and start EXPERIENCING it now instead.

Chanting On Top of a Mountain
May 19, 2009 by Donna
Filed under Blog posts, Donna's Life
This week I was sent a link to a video on YouTube of a ‘Miracle Mantra’, and just out of curiosity I went and had a look. To be honest, I didn’t expect to stick around long, I’ve never been into chanting unless I’m at a football game and it’s about how brilliant my team are. However, this mantra has got under my skin – really under my skin! I’m singing it in the shower, in the car, humming it while I’m cooking…
Originally, I had a look at the instructional video for this chant, and she suggested chanting for an hour – I thought ‘yeah, right, who has the time?’ But now, I find myself quite taken with the idea. I am Queen of the limited attention span so this might be another flash in the pan thing, but if you don’t hear from me for a while, I’m probably sitting on a mountain, chanting. Who’d a thunk??? That’s the funny thing about trying something new – you don’t know if it’ll ‘get’ you or bore you!
When was the last time you tried something new? Perhaps today you could try something new, and maybe, like me, you’ll be taken with it and find yourself understanding what all the fuss was about! (Or maybe you’ll be with me, sitting at the top of a mountain…chanting!)

How Do You Choose to Spend Your Time?
May 18, 2009 by Donna
Tell me this, if I asked you what’s ‘wrong’ in your life, how long could you talk for on this subject?
And if I asked you what’s good about your life, how long could you talk for?
And which do you choose to talk about more?
I have spent a lot of time (for me) over the past few days telling people about how my life sucks. But the thing is, everyone has things ‘wrong’ with their life – the question is how do you choose to spend your time? Moaning about how life is crap, or appreciating just how good you have it? (And if you don’t think you have it good, spend a bit more time on thinking about what is good – air in your lungs is a good one!)
I chose to spend a goodly portion of my life over the past few days whinging (and I enjoyed it too!), but I know deep in my heart that I have much more to appreciate than I do to moan about, and now I’m choosing to remember that, and use that air in my lungs accordingly.

I’m An Euthor!
May 15, 2009 by Donna
Filed under Blog posts, Donna's Life
So after a week of heckling everyone I know to tell them that my ebook is now up and running, I’m finally catching up with all the ‘congratulations’ e-mails. One came this morning to say “Well done! How fabulous to be an author!”…only I don’t really feel like an author. My ebook is a digital product, and although the writing process was exactly the same as an author of physical books, I don’t feel right calling myself an author.
So I’ve decided I’m an Euthor (e-author!) or Ethor or Digi-thor. It doesn’t quite have the same gravitas as ‘Author’ I suppose, but it made me smile!
Have a fabulous weekend,
Love
