The Real 12 Days of Christmas
Part of our Christmas tradition is to listen to Frank Kelly’s version of 12 days of Christmas – it never fails to make me laugh, and my dad cry…with laughter. ENJOY!

Christmas Cake Recipe
You’ll need the following:
1 cup of water
1 cup of sugar
4 large brown eggs
2 cups of dried fruit
1 teaspoon of salt
1 cup of brown sugar
Lemon juice
Nuts
1 bottle of whisky
Sample the whisky to check for quality. Take a large bowl. Check the whisky again. To be sure it’s the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer, beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar and beat again. Make sure the whisky is still OK.
Cry another tup. Tune up the mixer. Beat two leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Mix on the turner. If the fired druit gets stuck in the beaterers, pry it goose with a drewscriver. Sample the whisky to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Who cares?
Check the whisky. Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Spoon the sugar or something. Whatever you can find. Grease the oven. Turn the cake tin to 350 degrees. Don’t forget to beat off the turner. Throw the bowl out of the window. Check the whisky again and go to bed.

The Art of Receiving
December 22, 2009 by Donna

Santa has a box of wealth, health, happiness, love, luck and joy for you to enjoy in 2010. Are you ready to receive it? Put it this way, if you have a hard time accepting a compliment, you might struggle a bit to receive all this good stuff!!!
This Christmas, play with the idea that you do deserve ALL the good things that come your way (and if you are unfortunate enough to receive ‘bad’ things this xmas, you deserve BETTER!). Get ready to receive the wealth, health, happiness, love, luck and joy…
Receiving is an art – the better you are at receiving, the more you will receive. And for YOU to receive all you deserve, you need to be a receptive genius!! So get practicing!

Give Yourself a Christmas Gift
December 18, 2009 by Donna
Last year I had a brilliant idea to ask a client to write a list of all the things they have done this year to be proud of, all the fun moments they’ve had, all the moments of joy they can remember, their highlights of the year. Then seal this list in an envelope and open it on christmas day. I did it myself too, and it turned out to be one of my favourite presents!
What a lovely present to yourself, to remind yourself of just how wonderful life is, and has been all year, and how great you are! (Instead of how much you suck and all the rubbish things that happened this year!) So, this weekend, if you’ve got a few minutes to spare, dash off a list of joyful moments, things you’re proud of and have achieved, and give yourself a Christmas gift you will love on Christmas morning!

PS i suggest 100 things, but 20 will work too! Go…do, I’m off to do mine…

A Letter to Father Christmas

When was the last time you wrote a letter to Father Christmas? 10, 20, 30, too many years! I know that when we’re about 8 we discover that Father Christmas isn’t real…and then the magic gradually seeps out of Christmas. Reconnect with the magic of the season and join the kids in sending a letter to Father Christmas.
And just think,WHAT IF all the grown-ups were wrong, and there really is a Santa?! Dear Father Christmas…

Put Yourself First For Christmas

The silly season is upon us. Everywhere I look I see stressed out people with too much on their minds. Shopping, money, parties, work, and trying to fit in a life amid the business of having a perfect Christmas. But the funny thing is that if you stop and think about it, the best Christmases aren’t about the pressies, the decs, the perfect meal, cramming in as many parties and mince pies as possible.
The best Christmases are about having a laugh, enjoying yourself, having the time to spend with the people who matter to you, and the energy to enjoy their company. And that last one is the key – if you wear yourself out in the run up to Christmas, you will miss out…and your friends and family will miss out on you. (which, believe it or not, would be worse than a forgotten mince pie, tinsel decoration or present)
Think for a moment about taking care of yourself for Christmas – you can say no to things you don’t have time or energy for, you can leave the decorations at ‘well enough’ instead of perfect, and you can enjoy the festive season…if you put at the top of your Christmas to do list “Put myself first.” It might sound ’selfish’, but personally think it’s more selfish if you run around like a headless chicken, ignoring those around you and falling ill so they have to look after you on Christmas Day!
Trust me, your friends and family will love it if you are full of festive fun. They’d much rather see that than see you stressed out and sick!

A Birthday Message from Myself
December 12, 2009 by Donna
Filed under Blog posts, Donna's Life, Fun
Among the many good wishes and messages I got on Thursday for my birthday (thank you, by the way if you were one of them!), I also got an e-mail from myself. I set this up a year ago, imagining the message I would like to get from myself in a year’s time. Then I promptly forgot all about it. Let me just share a tiny bit of it with you: “My dearest wish for you is that you will look in the mirror and see what I see – the dearest, most gorgeous, most fabulous woman in the world.”
Aw, aren’t I sweet?! And do you know what? This was one of the most treasured messages I got on my birthday. I was right, I judged it well – the message I sent myself was very well recieved, made me smile, made me laugh and it felt great! If you’d like to send yourself a message into the future, go along to futureme.org – but just do one thing for me – make it a positive, loving message. You do enough criticising yourself on a day to day basis. Make this message something you will feel great about receiving!

What You Should Do By 31st
This was in the Lighten Up newsletter from the Playful Spirit (Lisa) this week. (I’ll share her website when it’s up and running)
1. Make a list of all the things you ’should’ do before the end of this year.
2. Light a match and burn that piece of paper.
3. Make a list of what you WANT to do before the end of the year.
4. Enjoy doing the things you want!
Couldn’t have said it better myself!

Natural Hibernation Time
December 9, 2009 by Donna
I thought I wasn’t really getting affected by the winter season this year. I was wrong. I want nothing more than to light the fire, cuddle under the duvet with a hot water bottle and sleep until it’s not cold and horrible anymore. Interesting isn’t it, that we have all these wonderful inventions (electricity, tv, clocks, lighting) to keep us going 24/7, even when most other animals realise that the time has come to hibernate. Even the plants know it, it’s a time for rest.
Now, you can be out and be busy if it’s what you want to do, but me, I’m hibernating! Of course, it’s not entirely practical to just say ’see you in the spring!’ (much as I would LOVE to!) but I am certainly replenishing my reserves of fat (more chocolate please!) and sleeping more than I would in summer. And I don’t really care if someone thinks that’s lazy. Because they’re wrong. It’s nature darling!
Love (and snoozes!)
