Hi Donna! I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas. I just finished reading the free ebook (this time the whole way through) :) You did a terrific job! I fealt inspired to start looking at self care everyday. Its really easy to incorporate into my daily schedual. I believe that that will be my theme for this year. To focus on self care really I need to start with the most important and then when its second nature move onto the next theme. What a fantastic idea.

Again thank you for taking the time to write us all these blogs and really making me for one smile and look at myself differentely.

Take care. Have a terrific new years!
    Melissa

  4. Donna on December 30th, 2008 9:55 am

Melissa, you are very welcome! I am delighted that you are going to make that your theme of the year – let me know how you get on!

Lots of love, and a happy and cared for 2009!

    Stand out moments for 2009:

    Passing my driving test
    Paying off my debts
Being asked for a dance by a 25 year old in a nightclub

    Stand out songs:

Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon

  6. Donna on December 31st, 2008 4:59 am

    WOO HOO! Well done you!

Hi Donna. My top 5 strenghs are

    Appreciation of beauty and excellence
Capacity to love and be loved
    Fairness, equity, and justice
    Gratitude
    Kindness and generosity

mine were bang on as well :) Thanks for writing about the site.

  9. Donna on January 9th, 2009 8:04 am

Ooh, interesting! I was looking at the book last night, and the idea is to consciously use your signature strengths MORE – so you, like me, can express gratitude even more and express and receive love.

Thank you for coming back to tell me!

2009 is The Year of Great Creation for me. I am going to create a life that I want. I am going to go after what I want. I believe I am going to create that life even if on some days it seems impossible.

    Hey Donna!

Well, it’s now February ~ hope you’re feeling better today! TeeHee, hugs!

Sometimes, when you “just feel like crying”, that’s really the best thing to do! It’s easier on the heart, soul AND body to let the stress (whatever its cause) out with your tears, and let the Cosmos deal with it, than to keep bottling it up, especially when it’s so intense that it comes to the “top of mind”!

Close the door to the office if necessary, and let it out. Or take a walk, and “hug a tree” for a few minutes! Hope that helps!

    Zen Hugs from Chicago, too!

    Karen J.

  18. Donna on February 2nd, 2009 1:15 pm

Lol – thanks Karen…sadly February has brought snow, not the milder weather I was hoping for! Still, my desire to be living in the sunshine is stronger than ever!

I did have a little weep, thanks – I like to have a good cry every now and again!

    Love

  19. Karen Johannessen on February 5th, 2009 1:21 am

    Yah! Sooper-doozy snow!
At least here we usually get brilliant sunshine, after it stops snowing! I guess “London’s record snow” has fallen off the front pages in the States ~ how’re you doing now, a couple days later? It’s been close to zero F most days in Chicago, except when it’s closer to 40! Crazy weather changes ~ K

  20. Donna on February 9th, 2009 12:44 pm

Well, we’re due even more snow tonight…and at the weekend. Everyone here is totally flummoxed. For the last 10 years or so we’ve had hardly any snow…and it goes away real quick. This lot is sticking around – much to my disgust! I like the snow, but I really really want it to be warm now! xx

You know, I’ve often had this very same thought, myself. I can so easily picture it, too! Crossing over “the Veil” and realizing with a laugh, “Ohhhhh! That’s right! THIS is the “real” world! I’ve been dreaming again..”

It’s funny how I will gently chide my husband for calling himself “stupid” or some such….but I do it to myself sometimes (and nearly always over something minor, like dropping a bit of food on the floor or driving past a store I meant to go to) without even thinking!

  34. Donna on May 29th, 2009 2:21 am

  40. Alexis on June 6th, 2009 1:45 am

I know how you feel. Same thing happened to me in Berlin. It was overcast, I thought the sun wasn’t strong, went out in a short sleeved t-shirt, no sunscreen, thought I would be ok…That evening lobster fest on my arms. Ouch!

Next day, long sleeved t-shirt and loads of sunscreen on what skin was bared.

  41. Donna on June 6th, 2009 2:31 pm

There must be some gadget these days that will beep at you if your in danger of burning! Mind you, I have burnt in the car in february before so I guess I just need to wear sunscreen every day, all day! x

  42. Chris on June 16th, 2009 5:50 am

I have three running coaches… They’re all great in their own way…

I can bring each of them to mind during a race to help me carry on.

When I need to push a bit harder to get up a hill, past another runner or sprint to the finish I can hear Cliff telling me to “dig in” and giving me the strong verbal encouragement to go just a bit harder…

When I say to myself that I want to stop for a rest I can hear Joan saying “yes ok, we’ll just go a bit further first tho eh?” and I never do actually stop…

When I just want to stop and give up I can hear Malcolm telling me that’s “it’s ok it happens to everyone sometime” but he also manages to give me a look that reminds me how disappointed I’ll be if I don’t finish and so I keep going to the end…

It’s odd that it’s not so much what they do when they coach me in person that helps me achieve more in a race but more often it’s the advice I imagine them giving me when they’re not there!

    Chris

Thank you for this post and video. I’m in a difficult situation and am looking for the gift. Seeking inspiration, I searched Google for: “looking for the gift” quotation. And I found what I was looking for here.

From a narrow perspective, I can only see my pain. From a higher view, I can see that I am not alone and that there is a gift somewhere in this situation, even though I don’t yet know what it is.

  44. Donna on June 17th, 2009 8:39 am

Alysson I am so glad you found this video – I know that the gift in this situation will come to you, and that you will emerge from it stronger, with integrity and grace (even if it doesn’t feel that way!) Know that you are absolutely being watched over by a universe that loves you, and I hope you find more and more inspirations that will help you through the rough time. Much love. Donna.xxx

  53. Michelle S. on July 21st, 2009 8:56 am

At times like this when the frustration factor is well past the stratosphere, I have a favorite “anger fantasy” which may help you out if you want to give it a try:
I picture a large concrete wall about 10 feet or more in front of me. Behind me is a huge table loaded down with wonderfully breakable objects (plates, ugly porcelain little statues, etc). I stand there and hurl objects at the wall as long as I want to, till I finally start laughing at the silliness of it!
I confess to being a “door-slammer” when I’m really, really angry… so if the throwing-plates-at-the-wall bit doesn’t work quite well or fast enough to suit me, I imagine a large, heavy, thick wooden door in the wall, that swings easily on its hinges. I can slam the living hell out of that door till I’m feeling much better. Since I’m doing it all mentally my home stays intact and my children don’t run screaming that “Mum’s gone mad!”
Hope the problem is resolved in no time at all, and you’re having a wonderfully easy day by the time you read this!
    Hugs!!

  54. Donna on July 22nd, 2009 4:45 am

Lol – I like it. There ought to be some ineractive game with door slamming, plate breaking and screaming. Perhaps on the wii? oh, I’d love that!

Ah, I was never really that cross. Just mildly irritated. The good thing was that when it finally posted (4 hours later!) I celebrated like I’d won a million!

  63. Susan on October 16th, 2009 5:50 am

Hi, Donna — what is going on? I looked back to see if by tingles you meant shingles? My daughter Emily, had that last year and had great luck with the homeopath. But perhaps you’re working on something entirely different.

My energy today is about a 6. I would really like to call in to work, but as I am an hourly drone, I only do that if I absolutely have to. And my low energy is not from anything in particular, just general life circumstances and a couple of chronic health issues.

Thank you for making me think about the things that consistently raise my energy.
    In no particular order:
Self massage with essential oils, maybe a citrus (blood orange is great) or geranium.
    Toning
Meditation, either on the breath or guided.
A brisk walk out side (but not in the drizzle).
Oh! And a little ‘poetry meditation I learned from a book: Look around carefully (it seems best outside) for just everyday things and say :Beautiful the deep purple asters: beautiful too, the moss on the tree. Beautiful the wind tossed branches; beautiful too the rain darkened pavement. I go on with it until I feel my perspective shift and I can say it about what ever is in front of me: trash in the hedge, mud on the dog, the grouchy old lady giving me the finger :-) . (I often burst out laughing in those situations, though, and that can cause it’s own set of problems)
And guess what, my energy is up to about a 7 just having thought about this, so I guess chatting with someone about positive things is a good energy booster.
    Sending you good thoughts
    Love
    Susan

  64. Donna on October 16th, 2009 6:11 am

Hey Susan! Lol, no it’s not shingles. I am tingling from the neck down – you know like when you have a dead leg and the feeling is just coming back? Not nice :-( …but it is better, and only 8 more days til the MRI!

Love it – like that little meditation! I’m going to try that out. Lol – laughing is a GREAT energy raiser. No problem there! xx

  68. Patricia Norwood on October 19th, 2009 5:59 am

Hi Donna. I have noticed that energy fluctuations have been a lot more frequent and more severe from September 9 and have gotten more so the closer to Halloween we get. Part of this is the season, part of it is due to global climate change, and part is due to everyone adjusting to the ascension energy vibrations. I have had to fight to get things done a lot and it helps to eat a snack of trail mix or other energy food when the blood sugar is flagging and if the energy cycle is too low a power nap in the middle of the day. And always a few minuets doing a breathing meditation helps. getting the oxygen in your system is very energy stimulating.
hugs and sending lots of bright energy your way today

  69. Donna on October 19th, 2009 6:18 am

Thanks Patricia, that positive energy is received gratefully! Lol. Good point about the breathing meditation…I’ll add it to my list of energy raisers! Also very interesting to notice the affect of the seasons etc on energy – mine usually drops through the floor when the clocks go back. Interesting! xx

My weekend-mojo started already on friday night when I was attending the open-air-dance in central Stockholm. It was so much fun – all the people with their own music in their ears dancing quiet around place at a central tube-station. I was smiling the whole hour, fantastic!
Then we went for some tea and coffee because it was nevertheless -2 C…
Looking forward for more fun this weekend – toonight with my laundry for exempel ;)
    Have fun you too!
    Hugs

My dream is to live and work in sunny Mexico… oh, and to get a 6-pack (and not just of Mexican beers!) :) x

What seems to work for me is gymming it …. Early in the morning. Sets me up for the whole day. Now, if I could just work out a way to get me out of bed that early every day!

The older I get, the more laid back I seem to be getting. Not in the sense of not bring productive, but in the sense of “don’t sweat the small stuff”. Mind you, having said that, bad customer service still drives me up the wall. However nowadays I’m more vocal in my discontent rather than seething in silence! (which I think, maybe naively, to be a positive and proactive thing!)

My top 3 reasons for procrastination are: 1. Too hot. 2. Too old. 3. Too drunk…! Lol

  98. Donna on March 5th, 2010 3:45 am

And you are a marvelous example of someone who GOT their big dream!!! xxx

  99. Donna on March 5th, 2010 3:56 am

Hmm – getting up at early o’clock is tough when you went to bed at 4am!! Perhaps that’s the choice you need to make – would you rather be early to bed early to rise every day or just flowing with your energy? You have always kept wierd hours – if it works for you, change the idea that you have to be up at 7 to be at the gym every day and just go ‘when’.

Your excuses (not reasons!) for procrastination 1. is your own fault for living in a hot country! 2. Rubbish – you’re a spring chicken! 3. It’s good to put things off when drunk – it would take weeks to undo the mess you could get yourself into! Lol.

Age does mellow a person. Lol, yes, I realise that the older I get, the more I appreciate good manners . Oh dear. As long as you are voicing discontent in a constructive manner to a person who can change it, you’re right! xx

I just thought of a 4th reason…and this is the one that gets me every time – I’m trying to take step 98 before step 1 OR I don’t know what to do next and I need to chunk it down to a baby-step. So there’s another one for you – if you DO want to do it, and you’re ready, and there isn’t a better way…what’s the next baby step?
