Hear Your Heart’s Whispers

Your heart is always whispering to you. It sends you messages of love and joy and possibility and yearning, and the more you ignore it, the more it hurts. You cannot fall in love with your life if you ignore your heart completely.

Your heart wants to be heard. It wants you to know how loved you are, how much love you are capable of, how much you could love life if you listened to those heart whispers.

We’ve all felt and heard the wisdom in our hearts – we’ve felt the heart leap, we’ve felt the love, and we’ve also felt the hurt and the pain and the loss in our hearts. So sometimes we close down so we don’t feel that hurt any more. That’s what I did. It hurt to feel, so I stopped feeling.

Only I didn’t really, I just locked the hurt in. Which was kind of dumb as I look back on it because I didn’t want to lock it in, I wanted to let it go! Anyway, I also locked in my dreams and desires and wishes and hopes…and my loves and joys – all were locked in with the hurt.

Once I started to take down some of the walls around my heart, the wishes and hopes and desires and dreams were still there…and my heart was still whispering away. I just couldn’t hear them because of the walls I’d put up. Actually, I could hear them, faintly, but I ignored them!

It was only when ignoring my heart became too painful that I started to listen. Now, I check in with my heart every day. And every day I get a message from my heart – because it is always talking.

Always whispering messages of love and longing. Not in a moony eyed romantic novel sort of way, but in a ‘oohh, do this, try this, you are safe, you are loved’ kind of way. In an ‘I believe in you’ way. In a ‘you are worthy’ way. In a ‘I love you, even though you’re a massive geek who loves spreadsheets’ way (or maybe that’s just my heart…)

So try this: Take a deep breath. And another. And one more. Begin breathing into your heart, and ask yourself “what does my heart want me to know today?” Give your heart a chance to answer – give it time. (not just 4 seconds like most of my clients do the first time I take them through this exercise!) It will probably be a simple answer, and it will be loving.

If you get a “what the hell do you think you’re doing” type message, trust me, that is not your heart. Your heart is unconditionally loving and supportive – even when you’re being a psycho, PMT-crazed bitch from hell (or maybe that’s just my heart…)

Keep talking to your heart, start to get those hopes and dreams out in the open. You may not be ready to hear it all, but your heart knows you…it’ll keep the biggest dreams and craziest wishes safe until you’re ready to hear them. Talk to your heart every day – get used to hearing the whispers of your heart…and of course, to starting to follow those whispers and making those wishes and hopes and dreams your reality.
