Deliberately Take Time To Connect With Your Inner Wisdom

How often do you stop with the intention of connecting to yourself?

How often do you take 10 minutes to notice how you feel and what you need and what’s calling you?

How often do you deliberately take time to connect with your inner wisdom?

When was the last time you listened for your heart and soul’s messages?

For most of us, the answer is ‘not that often’.

And I was the same. But this month is all about connection and renewal so I have been deliberately creating practices that help me support that connection, and noticing where I need to fill up.

It’s the connection piece I want to talk about today, because what I’ve noticed is that when I make and take time to deliberately listen to my inner wisdom, it helps me more.

D’uh, right? It’s an obvious connection…not exactly rocket science.

And yet before this month, I wasn’t doing it daily.

I’d do it when I had time.

Or when I thought about it.

Or when I was stuck.

Or when I remembered that it works better than sitting at my desk struggling with a problem.

Now, though, I am connecting daily. I don’t have a 100% record, but perhaps 90% of the time, I have taken the time to connect.

5-10 minutes when I first sit at my desk to set the intentions for the day, clear my energy, pick a Beach Card and a Grace Card and just sit…allowing myself to consider what wants to be done today.

And 10-15 minutes either late morning or in the afternoon (occasionally both) to sit with a pad and pen and ‘meditate’. Sometimes that means om-ing, sometimes that means focusing on my breathing or on a guided meditation…but more often it means sitting staring into space letting wisdom bubble up.

That’s the meditation style that’s really working for me right now.

If I have a question, I write it at the top of the page and wait for the answer (not worrying at the answer or thinking about the question, I simply write the question, and stare into space…the answer comes.)

You might think that taking this time (a max of an hour ‘out’ of my working day, usually about 20 minutes) would mean I had less time to ‘do’ stuff, but actually the opposite has proved true.

I’ve had more time.

I’ve been calmer.

I’ve been waaaaaaaay more relaxed.

I’ve been ‘doing’ with a greater sense of ease and flow.

I’ve even created a course in just over a week…a course I shelved about 9 years ago!

Have I worked on my next book? No.

Have I done anything else on my list of things I wanted to get done this month? Not yet.

Am I bothered? Not a bit.

Because I am totally trusting that when the time is right to do those things, I will.

Because I trust that my inner wisdom knows what I need.

Because I would not have chosen to create this course that I shelved nearly a decade ago.

I would have talked myself out of it, if I’d considered doing it.

But that’s kind of why I trusted that now’s the time to do it…because it’s so far out of left field!

And because other than a couple of moments of dipping into the creative’s nightmare of ‘is it good enough’ and ‘will it work’ (whatever ‘work’ means), it’s been mostly a super easy and fun process.

I am well known for over-complicating and making projects way harder than they need to be…but this time, I’ve just let it be easy.

Because that’s what my inner wisdom told me to do.

But you can’t get that wisdom if you don’t stop to listen to it.

So find a way.

Find a routine.

Find a time and a method that works for you, and do it.

Give your inner wisdom the space to be heard.

Connect more deeply with your soul/higher self/spiritual team.
