When the World is Rocking, Centre Yourself

When the World is Rocking, Centre Yourself

You may have heard (it’s been fairly big news) that here in the UK, we’ve voted to leave the EU. A seismic event. One that has caused much gnashing of teeth, rhetoric, ramble and bullshit (on all sides). Don’t worry, I’m not going to get into a political debate here. It’s not the place. But I have noticed how charged the energy is right now, how het up and hinky the world seems.

That happens sometimes…you go to bed at night thinking all is well and then BAM! In the morning, the shock comes. A health scare, a trauma, a collision, a disturbance, a personal earthquake. Or the world around you turns on its head and suddenly people seem to go mad (political decisions seem to do this to people…which kind of sums up my view of politics).

Whatever happens to get your world rocking, it’s unsettling, it’s stressful, it’s disturbing. You find yourself thrown, shaken, discombobulated. And it’s so easy to be drawn into the madness of others if the personal earthquake is shared with other humans. Especially if you are an empath or senstive person, which all of us have the capacity for.

We pick up the energy of others…ever walked into a room where there’s been a row, and even though nothing looks out of place, you can ‘feel’ something has happened? We all have sixth sensory abilities, we can all pick up on others’ emotions. An empath and a sensitive person will pick up even more of this energy. And when the world is rocking, they may find themselves feeling everyone else’s emotions as well as their own.

Hinky energy(If you are wondering if you may be an empath, check out this article with 32 traits of empaths).

If you find yourself in this situation, the best thing you can do is re-centre yourself. Find your own equilibrium. As one of my mentors puts it “get off the dancefloor”. Get back to you and what you feel and think and know in your heart. Shake off what is not your energy. Unplug from the pandemonium and plug into source/love/good juju/your higher self.

I found myself this week needing extra tools to do this because the energy was so hinky. Usually I write, burn sage, get out in nature, meditate, do yoga, nap, ground myself and ask my spiritual team for help. But this week that wasn’t enough so I asked a lovely community I’m part of for more tools to add to the toolbox – my favourites were visualising yourself inside a diamond, spinning it both ways to clear the energy then keeping it for protection, and spending time with trees.

I’ve also been reminded to get sea salt baths, declutter and tidy, listen to music, dance, watch inspiring videos, laugh, explore exactly what is triggering my reaction to the madness and heal that, read a trashy novel, write out the fears and irritations and burn them, hand it over to my spiritual team (I tend to say ‘help me to…’ instead of ‘handle this for me’), shake it off (literally shake like a wet dog to get rid of the energy) and getting treatments (reiki, acupuncture, healing).

What’s in your energy clearing toolkit? What do you do to take yourself out of the madness? What do you do when the world rocks from under you? Remind yourself of what works for you…or try things that appeal from the list above. But whatever you do, centre yourself. Get back to you. Shake off the hinky energy. Get back to light and love. And remember that if you are sensitive or empathic, you’ll be picking up hinky energy from the world around you, so protecting and clearing yourself will be even more important.

The world may be going mad, you may be dealing with a personal earthquake, but the more you can centre yourself and calm your own waters, the easier navigating the rocking world will be for you.
