As we’re coming up to Christmas, I thought this video might inspire you to think of your giving in a different way…and I’m thinking I might do this challenge myself in December (well, it sounds easier and more fun than nanowrimo!)

Giving Thanks

Today is Thanksgiving holiday in the US. Now this is a holiday I like! It’s all about good food and appreciation. What a great reason for a day off. Although we don’t celebrate it here in the UK, it’s a good reminder to appreciate what you have. All to often we go through life just focusing on what is missing.
So today, Happy Thanksgiving to you guys in the US, and congratulations on having a fabulous holiday about appreciation. I salute you! And for the rest of us, let’s take a few minutes today to count our blessings. We have so much to be thankful for. And I would like to thank YOU for reading, for commenting, for being the reason that I write blogs. I appreciate your presence on my blog more than you will ever know. Thank you.

Nanowrimo Update – 1 Week To Go
November 23, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach
Well, there’s only a week to go until November is over and I’ll either be a Nanowrimo winner (having written 50000 words) or loser (having written less). Of course, whether I win or lose, I will still have learnt some incredilbe things about the process of writing a novel – among which is the need to note down somewhere what my characters do for work so I don’t have to re-read 25000 words to find out!
As of this moment, I am at 35000 words or thereabouts, still have 15000 more to go and I am really wishing I hadn’t started this challenge! But such is the nature of a challenge, it seems like a good idea at the time, then you wonder if you have become bereft of all reason, then you complete the challenge and are enormously proud of yourself and glad you did it.
Then of course comes the resolve never to do such a barmy thing ever again, and 1 year later you find yourself signing up to do exactly that! Lol. So, with only just over a month to go til 2009 ends, what challenge are you going to take up? (if you’re interested in a fun one, make sure you check the blog on Friday for a GREAT challenge!)
Wish me luck with my last 15000 words, and if anyone has any creative energy to send my way…I need it! Thank you!

Blessed Solitude
November 19, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach

I’ve been reading Anne Morrow Lindberg’s ‘Gifts From The Sea’ this week – where she writes what comes to her when she is looking at seashells. Last night I was reading her thoughts about the need to spend time in solitude. At the time of writing she was spending a week alone on an island – real solitude! Most of us cannot arrange our lives to spend quite that much time alone, but it got me wondering how much time you get alone?
It’s only when we’re alone that we can be in touch with who we really are – the rest of the time we are pushed and pulled by the world around us. The inner stillness that is who we really are is something rarely experienced by many of us. And yet it is not so difficult to get that time. It only needs a few minutes a day. For some people, meditation is the way to solitude, for others it’s time in nature, for others the only time they’re alone is when they’re in the bathroom!
For me, it’s last thing at night when the dog drags me outside. On a clear night, I can see the stars – and this week I saw 2 meteorites so that made me happy. I’m only out there for 10 minutes, but for that brief time, there is no noise. No tv, no radio, no talking, no traffic, nothing but blessed solitude. And there are days (like yesterday) when I am convinced that without that 10 minutes, I would become unhinged!
Make sure you are taking care of your need for solitude, quiet time, peace – when you can hear the whispers of your heart.

Are You Being Brilliance?
November 18, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach

Inside all of us is the knowledge of who we could be…not the ‘stick thin woman trying to get out from under a layer of jaffa cakes’, but the core of our being – that bit that knows ‘there is more to me than this’. Inside you there is a wonderful, beautiful, loving, brilliant woman (or man). And you know it.
Are you being that Shiny Gorgeous Brilliance? Or is that brilliance hidden behind layers of self-doubt, stress, frustration, anger, and lack of confidence? Chinks of it still shine through – I can see it from here. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to start deliberately allowing that brilliance to shine through.
They’ll be able to see you from another galaxy if you do. They’ll look up at the stars, and there you will be, shining across a million light years.

Abandon Your Inhibitions
November 11, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach

Last night I went to see my favourite band in the world, Muse. They are INCREDIBLE live – simply awesome! Anyway, these days I usually stand to the back of the crowd, in plenty of space to dance – I’m less bothered about seeing (although last night I was stood near the cameras so I could see on their screens which was good!) than in losing myself in the music.
Something seems to take over me when I’m at a gig – I become infused by the spirit of Tigger, Zebedee, and if it’s rocky, some headbanging nutter! At one point I noticed that I really was dancing like no one was watching – I had absolutely no shame at all. Once upon a time I would have held back a little, been a bit self-conscious, but last night it wasn’t even as if no one was watching. I just didn’t care!
This is SO freeing, it is so empowering, and it made a night that was already going to be fantastic EVEN BETTER. We get inhibited when we’re small, when we’re told that it’s naughty, or wrong, or something to be embarrassed about when we are uninhibited, but now we’re older we can start to drop some of those chains and dance free, sing free and live free.
You don’t have to be a cross between a headbanger and Tigger/Zebedee, but you can just drop one chain at a time, and start to laugh freely, speak more freely and enjoy your life more freely.

If It Wasn’t Personal…
November 10, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach

I was talking to a friend last night about taking things personally. In the UK, we have a horrible habit of taking things personally – someone is a bit ‘funny’ with us and we take it personally, our employer brings in a new rule and we take it personally, the weather is rubbish and we take it personally.
I remember a friend of mine being really worried that she’d upset somebody who she thought was blanking her. She couldn’t think what she’d done, and she mithered about it for weeks. In the end, she asked this woman if she was ok, and she wasn’t – she had been diagnosed with cancer! It was absolutely sod all to do with my friend.
Much as we like to believe that we are the centre of the universe, we’re not for anyone but ourselves…and that’s as it should be! So the next time that you notice that you are taking something personally, ask yourself “What if this isn’t personal?” and relax – your life will be much easier when you don’t take every little thing personally.
And if it is personal…so what?!
Even if someone does have a problem with YOU, it’s THEIR problem. Let them keep it.

The First Step Towards Healing Your Money
November 4, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach
Many of us have issues with money, many of us have limited education and knowledge when it comes to managing money, and many of us have no clue how to move forward into a life of financial ease. One of the contexts I live by is the idea that we already have all that we need within us to find the answers we need.
As a coach, I help clients access that inner wisdom, gain confidence in themselves and share some development resources I know have helped others that might assist them. Even without the assistance of a coach, you can access your own wisdom, gain confidence and find resources that will assist you. (this article, for example!) Ultimately though, it is you that will do the work, it is you that will find your own answers, and it is you that you will turn to.
I hope you already have faith in your own wisdom and ability to find what you need to get what you want. Even if you don’t, know that you do have wisdom, you do have ability, and you are absolutely capable of changing your financial health for the better. So, the first step towards healing your money:
Ask yourself this question: What do you know you need to do to heal your money? And what can you do TODAY to take ONE step in the direction of what you know you need to do?
We often blame fear, procrastination, self-sabotage, laziness or some other negative trait for not doing what we know to do…but more often in my experience it is simple lack of knowledge that stops us moving forward. If you know the very first step you need to take – be it paying a bill, setting up a direct debit, balancing an account, or just finding out what you need to know – you can do it. So do it.
Often we miss this vital step – because we don’t know what we need to do overall to fix our financial situation, we fail to act on what we already know. The irony being that if you do what you already know to do, you will gain some forward momentum. If you do a few things that you know to do, you will gain even more forward momentum.
And when you have done what you know you need to know, most of the time another action presents itself to you as an idea, so you can keep moving forward with increasing momentum…and before you know it, your life has changed. This one is the one question to remember – because you are the one who knows what’s going on in your financial world. If you do nothing else, at least remember to ask yourself this question often and essentially, ACT on the answer to the question…and that alone will help you heal your money.
This article is taken from the “110 Ways to Heal Your Money” ebook – to find out more, and buy the book click here.

Where Did It All Go Wrong?
November 3, 2009 by Donnaonthebeach
When something goes wrong in your life, what do you focus on? What you did wrong? What they did wrong? What is wrong? That’s what most of us do…sadly! Because there is only limited value in looking at what went wrong. Yes, you can find a mistake and fix it. But mostly we find a mistake, blame, regret, feel guilty, complain, and use it as a stick to beat either ourselves or the other poor sap that was involved.
Situation worse! It’s interesting isn’t it that this is our default position – from governments to households – where did it all go wrong? And what happens? Does the situation improve? Usually not because we are far too busy apportioning blame, criticising and moaning about how it shouldn’t happen. None of which improve the situation.
Here’s a slightly different approach to try. Look at what’s ‘wrong’ in your life, and decide how you want it to be. Now take action to make it ‘right’. Trust me, this simple change of perspective will improve a situation 1000 times more than blaming, criticising and complaining.
