Pick Your Nose

I've Picked My Nose, Have YOU?

I've Picked My Nose, Have YOU?

In the UK tomorrow (Friday) it is Red Nose Day, also known as Comic Relief – one of these fundraising drives for fabulous causes. I have probably mentioned before that it feels good to be generous, it feels good to give to a good cause, it feels good to contribute to worthy charities and it feels good to be in a position to help another person who needs a bit of help. Best of all, on Red Nose Day, you can pick your nose!

Here’s the nose I picked – well, this is the digital nose I picked. I also got a physical nose that’s the grumpier one. I want the deely boppers, but that’s an 80′s throwback moment so unless I happen to be in Sainsburys any time soon I won’t be deely bopping. If you are wondering what on earth I am on about, check out http://www.digitalrednose.com/ to pick your nose or http://www.rednoseday.com/ to find out more about Comic Relief.

Happy Nose Picking!!

Completing the Circle

March 11, 2009 by

Did you know that your dreams, your goals and your gifts have chosen you, just as you have chosen them? Yes – the reason you have those dreams, goals and gifts is because they looked at you and said “Wow, this person is the PERFECT person for me!” The universe doesn’t get this wrong. Even if you do not have total confidence in yourself, your dreams, goals and gifts do. If they didn’t, they’d go find someone else.

So complete the circle – know that you are chosen, just as you chose. And as you and your dreams, goals and gifts are a team, if you need help – you know exactly who to go to first!

Release a Spark of Creativity

Inside you is a spark of creativity desperate to get out – whether through writing, singing, dancing, painting, sculpture, acting, or any other medium you are attracted to. Releasing that spark of creativity, whether you are any “good” or not will give you more energy, allow you to have fun, and help you to express who you really are – a creative, intelligent, wonderful being who came to this earth to be all they could be.

OnTheBeach – Are Your Good Habits Wrecking Your Life?

March 9, 2009 by

I have written a lot about self-care over the last few years (for my free ebook on self-care, click here), and the basic idea of self-care is doing things that care for you – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I am often intrigued by how people (including myself) do the opposite of self-care, they self-hurt. Not necessarily by cutting themselves or in any obvious way ‘self-harming’, but by not noticing when the little things that make up a life detract from their enjoyment. And sometimes it is the so-called good habits that turn toxic.

One of the reasons I was so grateful to be sick last week was that it forced me to cut out so many things that I normally do…and to notice when I was doing something that actually made me feel worse. For example, I have a series of ‘daily practices’ that help me make my life amazing, like meditations, yoga, gratitude, journalling, channelling, affirmations. But I had made them into a chore by trying to do 15 things every day – whether I wanted to or not.

The irony is that I do these to make myself feel better, but I spent half the day avoiding the chore and berating myself for not doing them. (oh how I laughed when I realised what I was doing!) So they didn’t make me feel better! Each process, each item, done in its right time does help me – whether physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually…but that doesn’t mean I have to gorge on them!

Awareness is the key to making sure that something or someone who once enhanced your life and made it better STILL does. It’s amazing how often we continue with a so-called ‘good’ habit long after it stops serving us. Let me be clear here: to my mind, something serves you and enhances your life if you get joy from it. So running for 5 miles a day does not count if you hate it. If you love to run, then that’s something that serves you and enhances your life.

If we really believed in our inherent worth, we would never tolerate habits, or anything that did not serve us. Imagine believing so much in your divine magnificence that you nurtured yourself, cared for yourself, put your joy before your ‘should’s, gave yourself the tender, loving, gentle, total love and respect. Imagine if every ‘good’ habit you had added to your joy, instead of being a chore and wrecking your life!

Something to play with
Check your ‘good’ habits. Do the things that you do to make your life better make you feel fabulous? If not, maybe it’s time to swap a tired old habit for a new shiny, joyful one?

Leave me a comment with your thoughts below.

Joy be with you.

Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway

March 8, 2009 by

I first read this book about 8 years ago, and since then it’s been sitting on my bookshelf gathering dust. After deciding to have a clearout of old books, I decided to read this again. And what a pleasant surprise it was. In general, I don’t do philosophies that are about ‘pushing yourself’ through anything, whether it’s fear or pain or anything else.

But Susan Jeffers is not really talking about ‘pushing’ yourself at all. Instead, she is talking about increasing your confidence, expanding your comfort zone, and enjoying your life. Now that’s MY kind of subject!! If you have any fears about living your life, this is a great book to give you tools and ideas to increase your confidence and start living the life you WANT to live. Enjoy!

Your Friday Mission…

March 6, 2009 by

…Should you choose to accept it:

Each day of this weekend, remove one thing from your life that brings you down and add one thing that brings you up.

It’s the simplest of missions – and actually, what a joyful, happy life would be all about if we paid attention. Instead we are so busy with our careers, amassing piles of cash, trying to keep up with all our friends and family in an already busy life, filling every spare hour with stuff to do. And we stop being aware of one simple question: Does this make me feel better or worse? Does this feel good when I do it, see it, spend time with it? Does this enhance my life?

Now, you may look around your life and think that ALL of it has to be thrown out – the job, the home, the relationship, the friendships…but let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater here. Start with small things. Is there a piece of clutter that has been bugging you for a while? Is there a tv programme that always depresses you when you watch it? Is there a food you eat that you no longer like? Get rid of that small thing.

Now add one small thing – maybe you like to look at the stars, or watch the sunset. Do it today (cloud cover permitting!). Maybe you haven’t had a soak in the bath for months – do it today. Maybe you love burning essential oils, or listening to a certain type of music, or you have been saving the silk undies for ‘a special occasion’. Today bring something into your life that makes you feel good.

You may want to carry on past this weekend – every day just dropping one item, idea, habit, process, even person that no longer serves you; and picking up just one item, idea, habit, process, even person that makes you feel good. If you did this for a couple of months, just imagine how good life could be?

Let me know how you get on. Joy be with you.

If It Is Not A Definite ‘Yes’

March 5, 2009 by

I’ve been thinking about doing something for a while now – an oppotunity that I like the sound of, and have put off before for a few months. Then a new opportunity presented itself to me today, which is not as convenient, not as clear-cut as the other…but I find myself pondering ways I can rearrange my schedule so that I CAN take advantage of this. Which reminded me of a rule I (usually) live my life by:

If it’s not a definite ‘yes’, then it’s a no for now

See, we often berate ourselves for not doing something we ‘should’ do…but the truth is that if it was a definite ‘yes’, we would do it. So rather than wasting time umming and ahing over decisions you are not 100% certain of, live your life by this rule. If it’s not a definite yes, then it’s a no for now. Tomorrow your decision may be a definite yes. But for today if it’s not a definite yes, then it’s a no for now.

Imagine how much time we would save by not dithering, mithering, worrying, obsessing over our decisions if we lived by that simple rule.

Stop or Your Body Will Stop You

March 4, 2009 by

What a wonderful week I am having – I’ve had a bad cold since Sunday. At first I tried to resist, tried to continue as normal (well, normal as you can when your eyes and nose are streaming more liquid than any one body could possibly hold). Then as the days have worn on, I finally decided to listen to the message my body was sending and rest. Ironically, just as I decided that, the universe sent me this message:

Haven’t I always shown up with the right idea, at the right time, to spin your head and rock your world, when you least expected it, Donna?

Give yourself this rest you’ve earned.

You’re my butterfly,
The Universe

www.tut.com

Hmm…maybe next time I’ll listen earlier when my body is telling me to rest eh? Perhaps then I can have the chillaxing time without working my way through several boxes of tissues, paracetamol, vitamin c and kiwi fruits! Or maybe not. Well, whatever, I’m enjoying this rest now I’ve got used to the idea – lots of baths, essential oils, books, DVD’s, humour and my favourite thing – sleep!

Once upon a time my story of this week would have been an ‘it’s a terrible shame for me’ story…but this time, it’s a lucky me story. Lucky me that my body has insisted on a few days of relaxation. Lucky me that I can read books (when I can see), watch films, snooze, bathe. Lucky me that I have been able to clear my diary and take a few days off to give my body a chance to restore itself to it’s natural state of good health. Lucky me!

Joy be with you.

What Did You Lose When You ‘Grew Up’?

Whatever happened to the sense of wonder and awe you felt as a child? Whatever happened to your belief in fairies, your capacity to laugh at the silliest things, your ability to be creative, resilient and goofy? Today, recapture that sense of ‘childishness’ in your adult life – you might be surprised at how much you lost when you ‘grew up’!
